The NGO came to being through the initiative of Elder. Dr. Yosi Apollos Maton, who was confronted with the challenge of spousal abused, of which some of the perpetrators were ordained ministers of God; the challenge of sexual abuse of young girls who were left to deal with the trauma alone due to social stigma associated with these cases. Some of these girls were at the point of committing suicide because their families drove them away from homes and the society blamed them for something they did not plan. The third challenge that confronted her the issue of HIV/AIDS which claimed the lives of five people closely related to her. The dead of these five persons were premature due to stigmatization. They were left to rot and die like animals because there was no care and support rendered to them.
These cases placed a very strong burden in her heart on the 23th July 2008 to advocate for the vulnerable and the abused. But to be certain that God is leading her to it, she waited upon the Lord in prayers for four years and it became very clear to her that God is leading her. Being one of the leading women theologians in TEKAN seminary the burden became more compelling, that she heard God saying to her that she must be the voice of the voiceless, help of the helpless, eyes for the blind, ear for the deaf, defense of the defenseless. Thus, on the 9th of February, 2013, the NGO was inaugurated with book launch titled, “Advocacy and the Bible”.
